Armageddon Auckland 2012 Black Cat Cosplay

Armageddon Auckland 2012!! Had a super awesome time, especially since it was my first cosplay. It was fun having everyone ask me for photos, and there were some other really epic cosplayers there too!
People knew who I was too which is always good. Anyway, I shall include all my con photos :D

Black Cat Cosplay!

Super excited! I had my first photo shoot in cosplay yesterday, and it was an amazing experience!
I wanted to do a really sexy character, because if your going in, you may as well go in the deep end!
I picked Black Cat (aka Felicia Hardy) from the Spiderman comics.

I got my first photo back from my photographer, and she's done an amazing job!

A couple of months ago, I'd have never been caught dead in this costume! All thanks to going to the gym, I felt super confident, and now I can't wait to rock this costume at Armageddon next weekend!
I also have a few more photos to add to my work in progress post, so you can see the work I did :)

*edit: another photo :3

J Scott Campbell Signed Prints!

So a few awesome prints turned up for me last week, so I decided to get some frames for them..

So the first three (Black Cat, Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane/Spiderman) are signed by J. Scott Campbell. The last print on the right is 'Amazing Spiderman 50 Years' print, signed by both J. Scott Campbell and Stan Lee!

Can't wait to find a spot to hang these beauties! I love how professional they look in the frames too! I'm very pleased :D

You can find these prints on J. Scott Campbell's online store HERE for a limited time.

Scarlet Witch Bishoujo Figure

Scarlet Witch was one of the first of Kotobukiya's bishoujo figures. It wasn't very high on my list to buy, until I had already collected the ones I most wanted. Earlier this year I'd pretty much collected what I wanted, so I decided why not! Here's a quick look at her

Scarlet Witch.

J Scott Campbell Signed Goodies!

A couple of weeks ago my signed J. Scott Campbell goodies arrived from the official website.
I purchased Ruff Stuff sketch books volume 1 & 2, and MARVELous Art (all signed.)

My lovely art books!

Black Cat Cosplay (work in progress)

*Edit to see my final cosplay go here.
Earlier this year I joined the gym. I wasn't feeling too happy where I was at weight wise, so I've been going hard and lost 11kgs so far.
Since I've been loosing so much, my way of celebrating is to put together my first serious cosplay for the Armageddon Expo in Auckland in October!

This is Black Cat (Aka Felicia Hardy.) She appears in the Spiderman comics as Peter Parkers 'on and off again' girl friend.

So far I've got most of my costume sorted, I just have to edit it all to make it look like Black Cat!

Black Cat mask (could also double as a Ms Marvel mask.)

First up I had to make the mask. I saw a cool tutorial online that showed a basic way of making masks, out of those horrible white craft masks you can buy! I hand sketched it out, and just cut it out of the mask. It actually came out really well! I'll remember this for other superhero cosplays. It looks a little crooked in the photo above but it's fairly straight when I have it on. I'll be sticking the mask to my face with a prosthetic glue called Spirit Gum.

Testing what it looks like on my face.
Next step is to spray paint your mask the colour you want, just don't spray paint the back of the mask.

Me playing with my new superhero mask! Derp!
So pretty much with the rest of my costume, Ebay has been a good source for the other parts of the costume. I purchased a cat suit, corset and gloves on Ebay, as they'll be the base of my costume (and I'm not that great at sewing, so for my first cosplay I'm just happy buying parts!)

Photo of me in my corset when had just arrived.
I picked up some boots on sale too so I was pretty pleased with that. I didn't want to spend too much on boots since I'll be attaching fur to them.

My suit just arrived, so I decided to do a trial run!
So now I have almost all the parts I need, there are only a few bits left to do. The biggest part is attaching fur to the gloves, boots and collar. Also I wanna say thanks to my awesome fiance for helping me with all this stuff, it's been a fairly big project trying to find all the right parts!
More photos to come as my cosplay comes together! :D

*Edit, more photos!

Sewing on all the fur was a two person job! Thankfully my Mum helped me with this one! I needed to be wearing the gloves as she stitched on the fur!

Here I was just working out the size of the fur I needed, and I tried to get both fur pieces to have fur flowing in a similar direction!
Fur laid out ready to be glued on!

Completed furry boots! I love them, I wish I could just wear these down the street without looking like a total freak haha!

Also I finished off a black leather choker necklace to wear (which I'll have to take photos of at some point!)
I just got a black leather buckle choker, so the buckle sits at the back of my neck. My fiance punched a hole in the leather in the front, and we attached a super cute name tag to it with "Felicia" printed on it!
I had so much fun putting this all together. Can't wait to do a second cosplay :D

Anyway to check out the finished product go here.

Black Widow Covert Ops Bishoujo Figure Review

Kotobukiya decided to do an updated version of their bishoujo figure 'Black Widow'.
The new Black Widow is now a larger scale than the first figure, fitting in nicely with the larger bishoujos.
If you have the original, don't worry, she's totally different to the first figure.

I'm not quite sure why they did an updated version of Black Widow, other than the Avengers movie was out recently. I also don't know if this means we'll see a redo on the other smaller figures (eg. Rogue, Phoenix etc.)
All I know is I love the new Black Widow! Keep reading to find out why.

Marvel Storm Bishoujo Figure Review

When the sculpt for Storm was first revealed by Kotobukiya, I was among the MANY that were upset that the figure wasn't quite right/ was lacking.
Then they announced there would be a white version of Storm. Both me and my fiance liked this one better, and he surprised me by buying her for my Birthday!
What do I think now I have her out of the box?

The limited edition white costume Storm.

Kotobukiya 2012 SDCC exclusives!

The last couple of days, Kotobukiya have announced exclusive bishoujo figures they'll be selling at SDCC (San Diego Comic Convention.)

These figures are usually alternate designs for figures they've either already released or announced. (Emma Frost is a good demonstration for the limited versions and normal versions. The clear PVC "diamond" edition of Emma was a limited run.)

For the 2012 SDCC there will be 3 exclusives. So far two have been announced as X-23, Storm and one more soon to be announced.

For more pictures..

Marvel Invisible Woman Bishoujo Figure

Invisible Woman turned up on my door step a few weeks ago, and I didn't have a chance to take decent photos of her due to winter and a lack of sunlight!

Invisible Woman (Sue Storm) is a part of the Fantastic Four, and was one of the earlier bishoujo figures to be released. She just wasn't high on my list of figures to get. I've collected the ones I'm most interested in first, and I knew there were still a few of her around for pretty cheap on ebay, so I didn't rush.

Rei and Asuka

This is a bit of a bonus blog entry for Rei and Asuka.
Pretty much just because I love them so much lol! So there won't be much in the way of reviewing, just showing off the figures together :)

Marvel - Ms. Marvel Bishoujo Figure

Ms Marvel is one of the first bishoujo figures I purchased. I just love her!
She's the biggest of all the bishoujo figures, in fact, she practically towers over some of the earlier figures. I've done a bit of a basic size comparison here.

Ms Marvel ready for action!

Marvel Mystique Bishoujo Figure

A couple of months ago, I received the Mystique Bishoujo Figure. I actually thought I'd reviewed this but I must have forgotten!

When I saw her up for sale, I really wasn't too sure about her. I have all of the other X-Girls, so I decided to take the plunge and purchase her anyway..

Marvel X-23 Bishoujo Figure

X-23 arrived the beginning of last month, and I took the photos, I just never got the chance to upload them!
First thing to note is she doesn't come attached to the base..

Marvel Emma Frost Bishoujo Figures

I've had the limited edition diamond Emma Frost Bishoujo figure for some time now, but I couldn't resist. I found one of the normal versions of Emma for cheap enough, so I added her to my collection. This is the only bishoujo figure I have both options for. They're so different though, and I couldn't have one and not the other.

Bishoujo Figure size comparisons

I have now collected quite a few of the Kotobukiya Bishoujo figures. Since I own a few I thought I would post a few size comparison photos for people thinking of buying any of the figures.

Marvel Jean Grey Bishoujo Figure

Jean Grey arrived for me yesterday with Poison Ivy. I love the way these figures are packaged, they never turn up damaged or broken during shipping. When I finally managed to pull her out of the box (she was by far the most difficult to remove,) I noticed she was in the same packaging as Wonder Woman. The plastic packaging wasn't two separate parts, it was all one piece that basically wrapped around her.
I noticed a few other differences.
