Liara T'soni Bishoujo Figure Review

Right from when this figure was announced, there was a fair amount of controversy amongst the Mass Effect fans.
For the most part, Kotobukiya listened to the bitching. Her sculpt originally had larger boobs, and they toned them down due to the fan base complaining. I must say the size of her bust now complements her well.
Out of the box, what do I think of the rest of the figure?

Liara T'soni - Mass Effect 3
The one thing the fans have to remember when buying from the bishoujo range is that they are based on anime, and the original artwork is done by Shunya Yamashita who's huge in Japan. If you aren't into it, straight up I'll tell you not to buy. The bishoujo figures are quite sexy and do have anime type faces. I think with Liara, they've tried their hardest to please bishoujo collectors, and general fans of the game.

Out of the box, I really like Liara. I've never played the game, but I've watched hours of it due to the fiance being a massive fan.
Liara is a 1/7 scale PVC figure. Approx 25cm (10") tall.
Her costume has loads of detail, and a nice mix of flat colours and metallic paint.

Pretty blue skin!
I had a lot of fun photographing her, but ended up with about double the amount of photos. One of the new additions to the Liara figure is she has a ball-joint head! You end up with a lot more looks, because you can shift her head around! I'm not too sure if this will become common with the other bishoujo figures, but it's very cool!

As far as faces go, I really like it. Determined yet she has a little smile. Her "hair" is also a bit different to the usual bishoujo figures. Even though it's short, all the detail is there, like the flecks of colour that frame her face. Nice touch!

Liara's boobs are still pretty large, but they don't look as ridiculous as they first did.
I was able to take photos of Liara without her plastic base, because she isn't screwed on. The plastic base slots up into her feet, so her feet are flat. She balances pretty well without the base.

She's pretty unlimited for poses, always a slightly different look from different angles and head placement!

All the details, changes and ball-joint head are probably the reason she took so long to hit shelves.

Under her jacket, she has a nicely shaped bum lol!

Love the fabric around her knees, and realistic fabric folds by her arms and back.

Ready to help Shepard in battle!

Liara wanted some natural looking shots!

I think with her eyes, they tried to keep them looking more realistic than some of the other bishoujos. Probably to appeal to more fans?
The metallic blue on her costume really makes her outfit pop!
Don't forget, if you have Mass Effect 3 for Xbox or PC, she comes with a special code for downloadable content! Shame on you for skipping PS3 :(

Clear plastic base with two logo inserts, choose which one you like for display.
Her base is special, you can insert either the N7 logo, or ME3 logo. The only thing to be careful of is the bottom part of the base that comes out so you can change the inserts doesn't lock. This means if you move her, do it carefully, or the plastic at the bottom can fall out. Would have been nice if you could lock the two parts of the base together. Nice while she's just sitting on display though.

If you're into this figure, I'd say to snatch her up fast. I can see her selling well. There will be people out there who will purchase her just to add her to their bishoujo collections.
If you're not a fan of the anime style, the answer is simple. Just don't buy her. I'm pretty sure there will be loads more merchandise for Mass Effect yet to come. I know they're doing a realistic version of male Shepard. Failing that, there is always the action figures!

Next up will be FemShep:

I've also reviewed the art book and a scale replica of the Normandy.
